Rebuilt and fully restored antique oak Funeral Cart with ash wheels.
The antique funeral cart was badly damaged by woodworm and rotten timber. Damage was removed matched and replaced. Then the woodwork was fully stripped and refinished. Followed by the restoration of the Ironwork and a new coat of paint. Vulcanised rubber tyres were formed and replaced.
History
This kind of funeral cart was pulled by the bearers when the mourners were unable to afford the more luxurious and expensive horse-drawn hearses. When the time for the funeral came, the casket was transported on the hand wheel bier and the mourners followed the coffin from the house on foot or in mourning carriages,
